The Georgia tax credits have become increasingly valuable for physician practices due to the massive changes in healthcare.  Your practice may be eligible for the Georgia Retraining Tax Credit if you have any of the following activities:

• EHR/EMR -  New or upgrade, modules added, customization and other enhancements.
• Other systems such as PACS/Digital X-ray, Lab, e-Prescribe and others
• Clinical technologies such as MRI, CT, stress testing, sonogram and other equipment
• Workflow and business process changes such as Meaningful Use, paperless workflow, ICD-10 and others
• LEAN Healthcare activities such as Six Sigma, process mapping, 5 S, and others

All of these new technologies and enhanced workflows typically include training of employees, for which a tax credit may be available.

With all of the discussion surrounding the Federal incentives and Meaningful Use, there is some confusion about the Georgia tax credits.  Please note: the tax credits can be used in addition to the Federal incentives. Regardless if the practice is pursuing Meaningful Use or not, these tax credits may apply.
